Press Release 05.30.2005

NOTE from Mary Shultz of the Mountain State Wheelers Bicycle Club :

Thursday Evening Mountain Bike Rides at Kanawha State Forest
June 2nd  6:00 pm

The following message is from Doug Wayne. It sounds like an excellent
opportunity to mix in some mountain biking this summer, without having the
pressure of riding extremely difficult terrain with a bunch of "race pace
hammerheads". Doug is an excellent mountain biker who can help a lot of us"roadies" with their mountain biking skills. He is the top ranked "Sport
Masters" rider is this year's WVMBA race series, but as you'll read below,
he wants to promote the "FUN" aspect of mountain biking.

"Hi guys!  I'm sending this out to a bunch of folks to let you know that the
Mountain State Wheelers are going to try to get back into mountain biking.
The club has grown into almost exclusively a road riding club.  Road was
always the emphasis, but we had pretty regular mountain rides usually two
days a week until recently.  The mountain rides were turning into little
hammer fests and "festivals of suffering" so they weren't fun for a lot of
people who were getting hammered.

Starting this week I will be coordinating Thursday rides at KSF at 6:00.
These will be moderate in length and difficulty.  The emphasis will be on
fun, companionship, aerobic fitness - NOT race pace efforts on highly
technical trails.  I know that sounds boring to all the racers, but hey,
it's a good aerobic or recovery ride, and a chance to get together and share
something other than suffering.  (We can do that Sunday at Little Creek).

If interested, meet up at the lot where Davis Creek Trail begins.  We will
also check the lot besides the park gate for you, in case the Davis Creek
lot is full.  If there are any questions about the ride or ride status (bad
weather) give me a call at 548-6442.  Hope you can join us on some
Thursdays.  Perhaps together we can encourage more folks to come out and
have a great time at KSF!  Good Riding!  Doug Wayne wvmtbiker@hotmail.com
