Race Report for Mazza Vineyards/ Inferno Racing MTB squad
by Amy Dunkin
Share points with Ohio racers? Well, okay, why not, the more the merrier.
This amazing course consisted of super fast and immaculately maintained trails with a few log crossings thrown in along the way.
The Sport class riders completed 17 miles and the Experts added a few more on to that.
Temps were in the 80’s and humidity in Ohio was a lot less then back home in WV. Trails were relatively dry thanks to the warm weather from the previous week.
The race began at the bottom of a small gravel hill and we topped out from that onto the gravel road. A few ups and downs then turning left into the sweet single track where we pretty much remained the rest of the race.
After the race each racer was handed a cool Race To the Hills Commemorative glass.
Then all racers got to feast on some fresh watermelon and tasty past meal.
The Mazza / Inferno WV MTB squad held our own against the buckeyes.
I, Amy Dunkin had a great day. This course was just my style. I will be back for this one in the future. Laurie and I took turns passing each other then I headed out leading the women into the single track before Laurie passed me again. Then on a small hill lost my chain and had to stop for that. Lost some places on that as everyone was so close together. I just hammered on and thought I was really going fast due to my new cycle computer being miss-calibrated. Ooops I think I messed it up before the start. Oh well it showed I raced 27 miles, so you can understand my confusion at what I thought was the 17 mile mark. I was like where is the finish line. Anyways, I did well and passed two more women within the last four miles to place 6th in the WVMBA class and 8th out of 16 overall with a time of 1:49:32.
Bruce Miller was ready to race and captured 5th out of 29 in the Sport Men Class with a time of 1:26:20.
Josh Cook was the only WV racing in his WVMBA High School class and he sweated it out and placed 7th with a time of 1:39:20.
Mazza / Inferno results for the Little Beaver MTB Challenge – WVMBA Point Series race #9:
Josh Cook – 7th place High School (15-18)
Bruce Miller – 5th place Sport Men (19-34)
Amy Dunkin - 6th place Sport Vet. Women (34-45)
