Press Release 06.09.2005

VIRGINIA - Bryan Park Cycling Series presents
it's first race of the new "C" class series.

New rider, Grayson Cobb hammered past Richmond Ciclismo’s Robert Pullin to win the first ever “C” race at the Tuesday night Bryan Park Cycling series.

More importantly, the racing resume begins for many new cyclists.

“Any cycling coach will tell you, nothing will substitute racing if you want to improve your cycling,” said Richmond Ciclismo’s Joe Notarnicola.

Usually, any one new to the sport of bike racing would have been unmercifully thrown to the “B” race. Many of the cyclists in that race are veterans of numerous criteriums, road races and fast club training rides. And, many of the “B” riders are competent enough to compete in the much faster “A” race. The only thing a new rider would learn is what a peleton looks like as it rides away at an average speed of 24 mph.

Ciclismo’s Ann Hardy approached organizers of the Bryan Park cycling series to come up with a new way to encourage less experience cyclists

The “C” race was born.

The “C” race will be every first Tuesday of the month at 5:45 p.m. If it rains, the racing will be postponed until the following Tuesday. Of course, you’ll need a bicycle and a helmet. United States Cycling Federation rules apply.

“This is more that what I had hoped for,” Hardy said. The “C” pack surprised the spectators as it stayed together during the race.
