HSSC MTB RACE PRESS RELEASE:

The race flyer should have read "Full Suspension required". The course had rocks, Rocks, and ROCKS, oh yeah wet roots, off chamber stuff, and logs too and lots of all of them. Last weekend was fast and furious this weekend was frustrating. At least for 4.5 miles of the 8+m,ile course. Weather wise it was a nice day to ride. The rain hit the course the night before so as to add even more technicality to this course.

The course consisted of a technical 8+ mile course that the Experts completed three times and the Sport class completed two times.  This was a all afternoon event for most riders.

With an asphalt road to single track start the long day began. Off chamber with slick roots and moss covered rocks and of course fallen trees right in the turns so as not to let you get too comfortable with the speed you picked up in the fast section you found on the course that you hoped would last longer but then a nother rock garden was there to challenge your balance and bike components. Many a broken derailuer, broken chains, and flat tires to go around for all.

Aftert the race a great barbeque feast awaited the hungry souls with lots of water for everyone and peaches too.

The HSSC WV MTB squad performed well to take home some podium finishes once again.

Steve Thaxton was back to his old tracks leading the Expert Vet class and bringing home a 1st place finish for the day.

I, Amy Dunkin started off by having a pretty good wreck during my warm up. Warning, bike stems do not give even up on the full impact of ones abdominal muscles. Needless to say I had a feeling this was not going to be a great day. I had already pre-rode the course and new it was not to my taste. Would have prefered it a about 2 miles shorter per lap. To add insult to injury one more wreck on the first lap and lots of ghost shifting on my rear derailleur slowed this lady down. I received 2nd place in the Sport Womens class.
