HSSC MTB RACE PRESS RELEASE:

The Henry Clay 30K MTB race was on Sunday. A dry, dusty, rocky, course mixing it up with paved roads, double track, and single track.  Only one water station was available on the course, not enough for a hot day and long course. After two miles of paved road start and then some double track climbs the excitement began on Scotts Run, a downhill rock garden strewn with loose baby head rocks and protruding roots. Many flat tires began to occur on this section of the course and a few wrecks too.

The course was 20 miles for Sport and Expert class riders.

After the race pizza and prizes were available to the racers.

The HSSC WV MTB squad performed well to take home some podium finishes once again.

Steve Thaxton raced in the Men’s Expert Vet. Class and raced to capture 2nd place for the day.

I, Amy Dunkin was there to represent the women and finished 3rd  place in the Sport Women class. I had not raced this course since 2002 and the parts I remembered were run in reverse this year.
