HSSC MTB RACE PRESS RELEASE:

HOT, HOT, HOT. Summer is upon us.

The course was 14 miles for Sport class and the 20+ miles for Expert class. The race began with a 1 mile long mostly downhill gravel road with some sketchy curves then after a long gravel/dirt climb you went into what was a mostly dusty wide doubletrack and fireroad course with little shade. Lots of turns where many a racer made the wrong turn and got lost. If you did not get lost then this was a fast course if you could take the heat. Only one water stop on the course.

The HSSC WV MTB squad once again provided podium finishes.

Steve Thaxton was kicking up some dust as he led his way to a 1st place finish in the Vet Expert class.

I, Amy Dunkin got 3nd place in the Sport class.  Nothing exciting to tell.  I led the way down the last half of the long downhill then missed a momentum opportunity before a climb and then just tried to play catch up and not get lost.
