HSSC MTB team press release:
The Black Bear, 25 miles of the most classic XC mountain bike course in WV.
A beautiful day to race. Fall was creeping up on us but the sun was still shining. This was the absolute driest I have ever seen this course. On one side of the course 2 inches of sand was present on the fire roads to make anyone slip up. And the ever present large skuzzy mud puddles were bone dry.
Mr. Steve Marshall organized this race very well. A first class event all around. Well marked course, great volunteers, plenty of food and beverages, door prizes galore, and huge prize table. Great job Steve!
The HSSC WV MTB squad once again provided podium finishes.
Steve Thaxton raced this course like a man on a mission, unfortunately his legs were not quite up for the challenge. With complete leg cramps on the last stretch of single track along Davis Creek Steve completely cramped up and had a small wreck. He persevered to remount the bike and race in to capture 3rd place in the Vet. Expert class with a time of 2:15.
The HSSC Women did well too. I, Amy Dunkin got 3rd place and my teammate Lori Ware came in 4th place.
HSSC results for the Black Bear 40K– WVMBA Point Series race #7 Fall Championship:
Steve Thaxton 3rd Vet. Expert
Amy Dunkin 3rd Sport Women (19-34)
Lori Ware 4th Sport Women (19-34)
