Press Release 02.16.2006
In order to raise awareness of our sport, a Bicycling Awareness Day at the Legislature has been set for March 1, 2006. It starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Capitol Complex. Set-up for bikes and displays needs to be done by 8:00 a.m. to ensure we have the space we need!!! Please try to come. We'll gather on the second floor in the rotunda. In order to make a showing, bring your bikes, your friends and their bikes, and wear your helmet & protective gear. (Please -- don't wear clipless bike shoes in the capitol -- those floors are definitely not suitable!) Let's show our representatives in the legislature that we're a viable group and worth their effort to support and ensure sustainable non-motorized trails in West Virginia.
If you lead a bike group and have handouts or freebies, you're welcome to bring them. If you're a bike shop and want to set up for small demonstrations to those who happen by, that's okay too. We encourage bike clubs and all organizations who have anything to do with biking . . . . road, mountain, downhill, trials - - - to participate. Forward this message to your friends who may not be on my list.
Our goal is to raise awareness of our sport, promote the health benefits of biking, the recreational opportunities that biking affords to families, and the economic impact of biking on tourism.
BTW, Mike and I have nearly finalized arrangements for the 2006 Tire on the Mountain/Bike the Parks Day Schedule. We have a tentative schedule on our Web site: http://www.wvmountainbike.com/id1.html. So check the schedule and reserve the dates on your calendar.
See you on March 1st!!
