HSSC MTB RACE PRESS RELEASE: One of the Local favorites was back again this year. Race the Trace is a great MTB course. Techinical singletrack, climbing, decending, mud, rocks, roots, and a very spectator friendly course. If you missed this race you missed one well organized event on a beautiful memorial weekend.

The course is a 5 mile lap with beginners doing 2 laps, Sport classes completeing 3 laps and Pro/Expert classes completeing 4 laps.

The HSSC WV MTB squad once again provided podium finishes.

Steve Thaxton racing in the Vet Expert class took this course to heart and climbed to the finish line taking 1st place in his class with a time of 2:13:28.

I, Amy Dunkin got 2nd place in the Sport class. Trying to stay close to Sarah (who broke her bike on the third lap) on the first lap I started to fade in the second lap to leg cramps and by the third lap I had lost all of my lead time and then got passed by Lisa. At that point I was just pushing through to finish with a time of 2:28:35.

Lori Ware our other Sport Women class rider raced hard and even drew blood on a header. Ripping her shorts Lori kept smiling and finished in 4th place in the Sport class with a time of 2:29:45.

Rich was hammering the course when he hit the wall on the third lap. Bonking out Rich lost a lot of time and places, slipping from another top ten finish, and made it in to claim 13th place in the Sport men class (18-34) with a time of 2:18:42.

Our other Sport Jon McClung covertly took this race day off. He is strategically planning his moves for the next event. Even though Jon did not race his wife and 4-year old daughter showed up to root us on. I could hear little Ashley calling my name on the Rocky Ridge trail. Thanks for the support Ashley.
